INFANT OBSERVATION SEMINARS 2018
ICAPP is pleased to announce there are spaces available in their seminars for anyone wishing to undertake the exciting experience of Infant Observation.
In 2018 ICAPP is offering an Infant Observation seminar on Tuesday evenings in Annadale, Sydney or via Zoom.
THE VALUE OF INFANT OBSERVATION
Infant observation is an experience more than an intellectual exercise. It enables a capacity to observe and think about development of the personality from its very beginnings. As such it develops an appreciation of the infantile roots of later behaviour – in the child, adolescent and adult. It goes to the bedrock of development.
ICAPP has offered Infant Observation seminars since 2004 and from 1985 when it was the Sydney Observation Course. Many people who have engaged in this experience state it has fundamentally changed the way they look at things. Apart from mental health workers, teachers, priests, nuns, dancers and film-makers are some of the people who have undertaken our seminars. Anyone wishing to deepen their understanding of personality development will benefit from Infant Observation
ICAPP considers Infant Observation to be a crucial component in the training of a psychodynamic counsellor or psychotherapist. It helps to understand the importance of detailed, fine-grained observing. It gives the opportunity to slow things down. By not having an active role it creates space for the fullness of an experience. It trains the observer to be able to hold a large amount of verbal and non-verbal material in their mind. This in turn engenders a capacity to tolerate uncertainty and to be able to explore experiences in a non-linear way – a capacity that is becoming increasingly important in modern psychotherapeutic technique.
Seminars are of 90 miutes duration. Observations are for 60 minutes.
Seminars commence on February 27, 2018
Closing date for applications December 31, 2017
