Indepenent Reading Guide

These guides are intended to be an introduction to areas of interest concerning child and adolescent psychotherapy.  While undertaking a reading programme within the context of a training programme is highly recommended, these guides can assist those people who are currently not in a position to do this, but nevertheless wish to expose themselves to relevant literature on particular topics.

As a further aid to reading, comments/reactions by former students are included. It is hope this will be a support for those reading independently as it will give you some idea of other people’s reactions and possible difficulties in reading particular papers.

This reading guide presents Klein’s basic concepts. The structure of the reading is to read secondary sources first. Hopefully these will then enable you to read the primary sources with a little more clarity.

There are two introductory books on Klein’s theory. The Wittenberg book is very readable and gives many clinical and non-clinical examples.

The Segal book is more dense but very comprehensive.
